From Malcolm’s Desk – October 2011

A warm welcome to our new Lessees: Mr Helder Da Costa and Messrs John A. and John G. Brink. We wish them all Happy Sailing and a long and fruitful association with the Marina.

To Greg and his Crew: we are glad to see that you got back safely after your adventurous sail and that everyone is okay.

It is nice to see that Sailing Season is up and running once again and very nice to have all the activity around the Marina.

Our Website is currently being worked on and should be up and functional shortly.

There is a slow trickle of international yachts coming in to Durban. Some have already arrived and enquiries from others have been received.

Some of you may remember Robn from “Heidi”. She had a regrettable experience while in South Africa, and unfortunately lost her husband due to illness in Richards Bay at the end of last year. She spent a good few months at our Marina, and made friends with quite a few folk down here. She still keeps in contact with us via email and at the moment is in Sequim, Washington (“Heidi” is still on the hard in Trinidad) and says she will always have very fond memories of Durban and the friends she met here.

It was very heartening to see all the support offered by the local yachties during the time that NSRI was busy with the rescue of “Tholile”. Offers of help included the use of boats and supplying of food for the crew (amongst other things). This just goes to show what a good bunch the yachties of Durban are, and how they support each other. The offers were greatly appreciated by NSRI, Durban.

Remember it’s YOUR Marina.

Let’s keep it a happy one!
